Thought to be the oldest extant ornate cast-iron footbridge in the world.
A public amenity on a public street, over a public waterway (the Water of Leith), it functions also as an access point to some of New Zealand's oldest university buildings.
Built in 1902-3, it replaced an earlier footbridge built around 1877 when construction was starting on the university.
